As most of you know, I have recently taken on a new endeavor with AFPA Fitness and am completing my Holistic Nutrition Certification. As I have been diving head first into the brilliant textbooks, I have a whole new outlook on plant-based eating. Instead of eliminating items from our daily intake to be healthier, we need to add more food to supplement. The idea of this is a true game changer for me.
I have always enjoyed Kim Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie and would keep coming back to it every few months when I felt that my micronutrients were lacking. Her smoothie has a good amount of carbohydrates from the banana, pear and apple which isn’t a bad thing, but not what I wanted. I have revamped hers into more of a supplement… also known by me as THE BEAUTY BOOST. This is not intended as a meal replacer but more of a powerful boost of nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that will aid in skin radiance, gut health and optimal brain function. And basically give a healthy boost to every organ and cell in your body!
After reading Deeply Holistic, I was overwhelmed by how many vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to be in it’s best state. I feel that I eat pretty healthy but after reading this text, I am on a mission to hit my numbers spot on. This also made me think of how many people, especially children and young adults, who are not getting close to what they should and how truly unhealthy the majority of our population is. Although this is sad, I see this as a challenge, not a setback. My goal has been to consume this booster 5x a week but I am to the point that I feel like my day isn’t complete without it.
Please note: this may be a little rough to take down if you are a newbie when it comes to green juices/smoothies but I promise it gets better! Plus, this is NOT a meal replacer so just think of it as a little pick-me-up. Some tricks to make it taste sweeter is to add a 1/4-1/2 of a frozen banana or more of the green apple. You can start out this way if the recipe below is “too green” for you and slowly make your way to the end result.
If you’re loving this and want to replace it with a meal, add 1 frozen banana and 1 whole apple. Other add ins could be ground flax seed, cinnamon, or chia seeds. Get creative because what I have learned is that you can never have too many nutrients.
I could write another few pages about what each ingredient contains and so on but instead of the rant, you can simply trust me that this drink is bursting with brilliance.
Things I have noticed thus far:
*Mentality – I feel way more determined, focused and driven. Consuming this health tonic has helped me stick to my meal plan throughout the day. The burst of nutrients power my brain to function at an optimal level.
*Hunger levels – I feel a lot fuller than normal and I’m sure this is because of the extra fiber I’m getting. Also, my body isn’t lacking nutrients so it is in a state of balance and satisfaction.
*Weight loss – I am down a few pounds and I think there’s a bunch of reasons for this. The first being fiber. I am more full, therefore, not snacking and grazing as much. My nutrient levels are high so I don’t feel tired or needing something to keep me going. Once you’re consistently drinking this booster, you will want to make healthier choices because you can see how good this makes you feel.
The Beauty Boost
Ingredients
- 1/2 lemon (juiced)
- 1/4 green apple
- 3 cups baby spinach
- 1 handful parsley
- 2 stalks celery
- 1-2 cups filtered water (cold)
Instructions
-
Add all ingredients to a blender. If you don't have a vitamix, you will need to blend at high speed for a few extra minutes.
Recipe Notes
This recipe only calls for 1/4 of an apple so I chop the rest and freeze it. For the week, I take out the frozen pieces to add to the drink.
I would love to see you consistently drinking this so please tag us on Instagram, IG stories or Facebook to show us your daily drink. Let’s motivate each other! #VegBeautyBoost
