Wonder what’s better than bacon? A healthy slab of NON bacon that still has that savory smokey flavor we all love but without the nutrition consequences.
This here is a weekend favorite lunch of ours that is nutrient dense, hearty and very filling! We took a spin on the standard BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato) and made our own version by substituting the meat for bacon flavored tempeh and the tomato for avocado.
You can certainly add tomatoes, cucumbers or any other vegetable of your preference, but this is ours.
Tempeh is a fermented soy product that has a high content of protein, fiber and vitamins. Some of it’s benefits include:
- Contains probiotics that aid in balancing gut health
- Promotes muscle growth
- Lowers cholesterol levels
- Reduces inflammation
- Increases bone density
